My Thoughts on NYE
As we head into another New Year, I wanted to take the time to talk more about Unlaced. I am so grateful for everyone who is supporting my brand. When I first thought up Unlaced, it was during the Black Footwear Forum in Detroit. I have always wanted to create something that merges my love for sneakers and my love for counseling and being around a bunch of creatives is what ultimately set it in motion. Everyone I spoke to during the forum let me know that my idea was good, but I did not feel as confident about it as they did.
By day 2, I was sitting in one of the discussions and I decided I would start looking into what all I needed to do. I was sketching out logos (badly by the way, I am not an artist) trying to find something that I liked. I did not want Unlaced to be just a t-shirt brand, but also a beacon for mental health advocacy led by a professional. I want a place where people can go to learn more about mental health, be encouraged, and also seek professional help. Unlaced is meant to bring awareness and kick the stigma around seeking professional help when you need it.
One of my goals for next year is to create enough revenue to give back to organizations focused on improving our mental well being. Don’t get me wrong, I want Unlaced to do well and thrive, but my main focus is on helping others both directly and indirectly just as I do in my every day profession. If someone can take what they need, either from the blog or or the resource page, then that makes me happy.
Unlaced is my baby. I want to create comfortable clothing that can be worn every day in different settings like the gym, outdoors, running errands, shopping, etc. I also created a journal that can go along with the monthly journal prompts found in the blog. My goal is to provide people, especially my sneaker fam, a safe place to land when life becomes Unlaced.
See you soon— Kristin
