September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month: a time to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and remind people of something they may not hear often enough:

You matter.

Mental health conversations should be honest, compassionate, and accessible. While suicide can be a difficult topic for some to discuss, avoiding the conversation doesn't make the struggle disappear.

The reality is that many people are carrying burdens that others cannot see.

Some are battling anxiety.

Some are navigating depression.

Some are grieving.

Some are exhausted from constantly being strong for everyone else.

And some are simply trying to make it through the day.

The Struggles We Don't Always Talk About

One of the most challenging parts of mental health is that not everyone’s struggle is visible.

People can be successful, smiling, and surrounded by others while quietly fighting battles within themselves.

That's why checking in matters.

That's why listening matters.

That's why creating safe spaces matters.

A simple conversation may not solve everything, but it can remind someone that they don't have to face their challenges alone.

Strength Looks Different Than We Think

Many of us were taught that strength means pushing through pain, keeping our emotions to ourselves, and handling everything independently.

But true strength often looks different. Strength can look like:

  • asking for help.

  • setting boundaries.

  • reaching out to a friend.

  • scheduling that therapy appointment.

  • saying, "I'm not okay right now."

There is courage in vulnerability.

Community Saves Lives

Healing doesn’t always happen in isolation. Healing is also not linear.

Whether it's family, friends, mentors, faith communities, therapists, support groups, or trusted colleagues, connection plays a powerful role in mental wellness.

None of us were meant to carry life's challenges alone.

Sometimes the most meaningful thing we can do is remind someone that their presence matters, their story matters, and their life matters.

A Message for Anyone Who Is Struggling

If you're reading this and you're carrying more than anyone realizes, we want you to know this:

Your current circumstances do not define your future.

Your struggles do not determine your worth.

Your hardest days are not the whole story.

There are people who care about you, even when it doesn't feel that way.

There is support available, even when asking for it feels difficult.

And there is hope, even when it feels far away.

The Unlaced Commitment

At Unlaced, our mission extends beyond apparel. We exist to create conversations around mental health, encourage healing, and remind people that they are not alone.

This September, let's continue checking in on one another. Let's continue breaking the stigma. Let's continue creating spaces where people feel seen, heard, and supported. Because every life has value. And every person deserves hope.
